Oakham Conferencing
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have parking on site?
Unfortunately, Oakham House does not have its own individual parking lot. However, Oakham House is located in the heart of Toronto so there is ample parking surrounding the building. Ryerson University offers parking to visitors and members of the Ryerson Community at the Ryerson Bookstore Garage located on the West side of Victoria Street between Dundas and Gould Streets and at the Pitman Hall Student Residence located on the West side of Mutual Street between Gerrard and Gould Streets.
There is also city parking available on the West side of Church Street between Gould and Dundas Streets. These are all paid parking lots and the rates are posted at the kiosks, and they are the average prices for the city. One block south of Oakham House there is a parking lot that offers rates for the evening after 5pm.
Are there any hotels that are near your location? We have some people that are coming from out of town.
There are multiple convenient accommodations for the Oakham House conferencing facility. Ryerson even has two of its own accommodation facilities during the summer months of May to August located right on campus.
The International Living and Learning Centre is located at 133 Mutual Street. This building offers all individual rooms with either a queen sized bed or double bed. Some come equipped with a pull out sofa bed and all have their own personal bathroom. Each floor also has a lounge and full kitchen unit. (around -75 per night)
Pitman Hall is located at 160 Mutual Street and has three different styles of rooms. There are the paired rooms that share a three piece bathroom and mini lounge, there are single rooms that are clustered around a seating area and washrooms and finally there are the apartment style accommodations that are either 4 or 5 bedrooms that include 1 or 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room and dining room. (around -75 per night)
Both are a very short walk to the Oakham House. Call 1-866-592-8882 to make a reservation at either location.
Other accommodations are close by.
What audio visual equipment do you have?
We have, PA Systems, Wireless Microphones, LCD projectors, Podiums, DVD players, built in screens and retractable screens, and most of the equipment needed at conferences, training sessions, weddings, book launches, etc. SCC 115 contains a state of the art touch remote control and wireless master system that allows you to control everything at the touch of a button.
Does your facility have it's own kitchen or do you get your food catered from another company?
Our facility has a full kitchen and every meal is prepared the day of the event.
Can you bring in your own catering?
No outside caterers can be used at Oakham House. We offer the very best in in-house catering and offer something to please every palate.
Can you take home whatever food is left-over at the event?
No leftover food items can leave the premises.
Does your facility offer bar service and alcoholic drinks?
Fortunately, our facility does house a campus bar throughout the year, so we have a wide array of alcoholic products to choose from. And if we don't have something you are looking for, we will get it. We also have experienced bartenders that work for us that can offer their expertise at your event.
How long can you hold a room for my event?
In order to secure and confirm your booking, you must pay your room deposit within one week of your original booking request.
The Ryerson Student Centre can only hold/reserve rooms for up to 1 week, at which point the room will be made available to other clients.
How much is the deposit to confirm the room for our event?
Your room deposit consists of the total room(s) charge, before taxes, and not including your catering order or audio visual requests
What are the different capacities of each room?
Please refer to our capacity and room set-up chart.
Can we come in the night before to set-up for our event?
Unfortunately, our facility is often completely booked and if you have an elaborate set-up, you would have to book the room the evening before. There is a floor supervisor here as early as 7:15am Monday to Friday, and Saturday at 8am so that is usually sufficient time to set-up binders and materials for your event.
Is your facility wheel-chair accessible?
Yes, all of our rooms are wheel-chair accessible.
Do you rent out your rooms at an hourly rate?
All bookings are rented out for a flat rate, which is considered up to 8 hours. In the event that you require the room for more than 8 hours, a 1.5x rate will be affixed to your original room charge.

Invoices will be sent out at the beginning of the month following your event. (Approximately 2 to 3 weeks after your event)
When do all my catering and audio visual details have to be confirmed by?
All details must be submitted by 5pm on the Tuesday of the week prior to your event. Any details submitted past this deadline are subject to the late fees specifically outlined in the contract.
